The First Call or Email
Tell us about the project, the property and your preferred timing. We ask a few focused questions, answer yours, and if it feels like a good fit, schedule a free consultation at the property.
The Consultation at Your Property
A project manager visits the property, reviews the existing conditions and checks what may affect the work, including structure, utilities, access, code and permits. You leave knowing the likely next step and timeline.
Design and Permits
We determine the right level of drawings, engineering and permit documentation for the project. Then we prepare the plans, handle the city submission and respond to questions throughout the review process.
Proposal and Permit Submittal
Our construction team reviews the project in detail and prepares a clear scope of work. You review and adjust it, and once approved, we finalize the proposal and submit the project for permit.
Construction
A dedicated project manager runs the site, keeps you updated and follows a written schedule. We protect the home, clean daily and close with a final walkthrough, completed punch list and one-year workmanship warranty.

General Contractor Questions, Answered
What is the difference between a general contractor and a design-build contractor?
A general contractor builds from plans someone else drew. A design-build contractor handles both the design and construction under one contract, so one team is accountable from start to finish. We work both ways, and are glad to build from plans prepared by your own architect.
Do I need a permit, and who pulls it?
Almost always, yes. Across Contra Costa and the greater Bay Area, permits are required for framing or foundation work, moving plumbing or wiring, and any ADU or addition. As your licensed contractor, we handle the permit process for you.
How do I check that a contractor is licensed in California?
Every California contractor must be licensed by the Contractors State License Board. You can look up any license number there and confirm that it is active. Taragano Design and Build is licensed under CSLB #1143420.
